ARES
Pitbull & Lab Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: March 29, 2020
Mr. Burns was one of a litter of kittens born outside to a feral mother cat near a wooded area. As soon as they were 5 weeks old Mr. Burns and his siblings were scooped up and their Mother was trapped and spayed and returned to her outdoor colony and Mr. Burns and his siblings went on to a foster home where they are growing up with the hopes of finding a person/family that will love them and care for them for the next 12-20 years! (a big commitment!)
Mr. Burns is the biggest kitten of the group and definitely the boss! He is very confident and loves to explore. He was the first to climb out of the playpen. And he loves people!

DOC HOLLIDAY
Cane Corso Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: July 15, 2020
At 1:15 AM, our PetPromise voicemail lit up with desperation. A man on the east side, voice trembling, was begging for someone—anyone—to help a dog he had found collapsed on the ground. Starving. Motionless. Barely hanging on. He had called every agency he could think of, including Franklin County Dog Shelter, but after nearly three hours of pleading… no one had come.
He told us, “He’s dying right here in front of me.”
We called him back immediately. By then, the dog warden had just arrived. But we couldn't erase the picture of the dog starving, neglected, lying in the grass without the strength to raise his head or stand on his own. We messaged the rescue coordinator at the Franklin County Dog Shelter first thing that morning—asking if the dog was alive.
They had him.
They told us he was an unneutered male, maybe 5 years old. So malnourished they started a medical protocol called refeeding—a slow, delicate process used when a dog is so close to death that even food, if introduced too fast, could kill him. The tip of his tail was necrotic and would need to be amputated once he was strong enough to survive surgery.
And still… he was gentle. Interactive. Calm. He knew how to sit and to shake. He took treats softly and gratefully. His eyes said so much more than he could.
PetPromise found a wonderful volunteer foster home (where ANY dog would be lucky to live) and picked him up as soon as his three-day stray hold was up. He was going to know love and carte after all that he had been through.
He is currently in a foster home that loves him dearly as if he was their child. He is being slowly refed and he is gaining weight very slowly. He has a long way to go and we hold our breath every day that he keeps progressing. He is the sweetest most grateful dog. He has bite marks all over his face and body yet he wags his tail and follows his foster Mom and Dad around like a puppy (with the little strength he has.) We don't know when Doc will be fully recovered but we are in it for the long haul....he deserves to live the best life for the rest of his life. We are so happy that we were able to be part of his rescue story.

OZZY PAWBORNE
Rat Terrier & Jack Russell Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: July 18, 2017
Sweet Ozzy was found wandering the streets for several days. Many stopped but he rean when they tried to catch him. He was finally caught and taken to Franklin County Dogs Shelter. He was very withdrawn and afraid. Although it was clear that he had been loved and taken care of...no one came to claim this sweet little gentleman. He sat in the corner of his kennel and hung his head. He didn't look up when people took him out. He was just sad. All over sad.
When someone decided to take the little guy into the office to try to cheer him up a bit, it made him happy. He actually started to come out of his shell and showed a glimmer in his eye. The staff wondered if this was the heart of a dog who had an owner that loved him and that passed away and this was grief. We will never know for sure but when we heard about this sweet boy, we knew we had to rescue him.
Ozzy is doing well in his foster home with another dog. He is independent...but really enjoys his human companions. He is still getting over whatever he has gone through. But someday we think this sweet boy will be fully happy again. He is a small terrier boy and would make a great companion for someone that will love him for who he is. He is mature and a pretty easy pup...

NYLAH
Small Pittie Mix
Female
DOB: Approx: April 1, 2024
Nylah was found on the side of the road with her three newborn baby puppies that she was trying to protect from the passing cars. Bystanders finding her there took her and her babies (Rose, Poppy & Daisy--all girls) to the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
Nylah is a young girl and was so stressed at being in the Franklin County Dog Shelter with her newborn babies. There were big dogs on both sides of her...adn she was so upset. She was jumping all over trying to protect her babies and they were crying out needing their mama. But little Nylah was so scared.
We knew we had to help and picked up Nylah and he sweet little black hippopotamus puppies (that's exactly what they looked like when we picked them up!) and took them to a wonderful volunteer foster home where they are growing big and strong and Nylah is learning to take care of them and loving having a foster family that loves her.
Nylah will be taking care of her sweet girls until they are at least 8 weeks old (they were born on @ 08/05/2025) but after that, both seh and the little girls will be looking for forever homes where they will never have to try to survive or stay alive on their own again.
If you are interested in learning more about Nylah (or Daisy, Rose or Poppy--who are listed separately) please complete an online Adoption Application!

DAISY, ROSE & POPPY
Pittie Mix Puppies
Females
DOB: Approx: August 5, 2025
These three little girls were born near a road and were living in the grassy section near the road when they were discovered. Rushed to Franklin County Dog Shelter they became the darling sweethearts of the kennel. Who could fall in love with these little hippopotamus babies?
They are adoptable and look just like their little pocket pittie mix Nylah. They are just babies so we are learning about them every day as they grow....but if you are in love with them already (and we totally understand! Look at them!) you can complete an adoption application and get approved so you can take one home after she is spayed and vaccinated. (Or after they are at least 8 weeks old...if not already spayed you can apply to foster them for PetPromise and adopt them after they are spayed!)
