ARES
Pitbull & Lab Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: March 29, 2020
Mr. Burns was one of a litter of kittens born outside to a feral mother cat near a wooded area. As soon as they were 5 weeks old Mr. Burns and his siblings were scooped up and their Mother was trapped and spayed and returned to her outdoor colony and Mr. Burns and his siblings went on to a foster home where they are growing up with the hopes of finding a person/family that will love them and care for them for the next 12-20 years! (a big commitment!)
Mr. Burns is the biggest kitten of the group and definitely the boss! He is very confident and loves to explore. He was the first to climb out of the playpen. And he loves people!

DOC HOLLIDAY
Cane Corso Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: July 15, 2020
At 1:15 AM, our PetPromise voicemail lit up with desperation. A man on the east side, voice trembling, was begging for someone—anyone—to help a dog he had found collapsed on the ground. Starving. Motionless. Barely hanging on. He had called every agency he could think of, including Franklin County Dog Shelter, but after nearly three hours of pleading… no one had come.
He told us, “He’s dying right here in front of me.”
We called him back immediately. By then, the dog warden had just arrived. But we couldn't erase the picture of the dog starving, neglected, lying in the grass without the strength to raise his head or stand on his own. We messaged the rescue coordinator at the Franklin County Dog Shelter first thing that morning—asking if the dog was alive.
They had him.
They told us he was an unneutered male, maybe 5 years old. So malnourished they started a medical protocol called refeeding—a slow, delicate process used when a dog is so close to death that even food, if introduced too fast, could kill him. The tip of his tail was necrotic and would need to be amputated once he was strong enough to survive surgery.
And still… he was gentle. Interactive. Calm. He knew how to sit and to shake. He took treats softly and gratefully. His eyes said so much more than he could.
PetPromise found a wonderful volunteer foster home (where ANY dog would be lucky to live) and picked him up as soon as his three-day stray hold was up. He was going to know love and carte after all that he had been through.
He is currently in a foster home that loves him dearly as if he was their child. He is being slowly refed and he is gaining weight very slowly. He has a long way to go and we hold our breath every day that he keeps progressing. He is the sweetest most grateful dog. He has bite marks all over his face and body yet he wags his tail and follows his foster Mom and Dad around like a puppy (with the little strength he has.) We don't know when Doc will be fully recovered but we are in it for the long haul....he deserves to live the best life for the rest of his life. We are so happy that we were able to be part of his rescue story.

OZZY PAWSBORNE
Rat Terrier & Jack Russell Mix
Male
DOB: Approx: July 18, 2017
Sweet Ozzy was found wandering the streets for several days. Many stopped but he rean when they tried to catch him. He was finally caught and taken to Franklin County Dogs Shelter. He was very withdrawn and afraid. Although it was clear that he had been loved and taken care of...no one came to claim this sweet little gentleman. He sat in the corner of his kennel and hung his head. He didn't look up when people took him out. He was just sad. All over sad.
When someone decided to take the little guy into the office to try to cheer him up a bit, it made him happy. He actually started to come out of his shell and showed a glimmer in his eye. The staff wondered if this was the heart of a dog who had an owner that loved him and that passed away and this was grief. We will never know for sure but when we heard about this sweet boy, we knew we had to rescue him.
Ozzy is doing well in his foster home with another dog. He is independent...but really enjoys his human companions. He is still getting over whatever he has gone through. But someday we think this sweet boy will be fully happy again. He is a small terrier boy and would make a great companion for someone that will love him for who he is. He is mature and a pretty easy pup...

NYLAH
Small Pittie Mix
Female
DOB: Approx: April 1, 2024
Nylah: The Puppy Who Was Never Given a Chance
Nylah wasn’t supposed to end up alone. She was just a baby herself—barely out of puppyhood—when she got pregnant. She knew how to sit, how to be gentle, how to trust. Someone had clearly loved her once. But love shouldn’t end on a desolate road.
One day, the people she trusted drove her to a lonely stretch of pavement and left her there. No goodbye. No blanket. No food. Just the sound of their car fading into the distance. Nylah waited. And waited. Surely they’d come back. Surely this was a mistake.
But no one came.
In her confusion and heartbreak, Nylah gave birth to three tiny girls right there on the roadside. She was scared, alone, and still a puppy herself—but she stayed. She curled around her newborns, shielding them from the cold and the cars that passed without stopping. People saw her. We know they did. But they kept driving.
For days, she held on. She didn’t know how to be a mother, but she tried. She kept her babies warm. She didn’t run. She didn’t leave them. Eventually, someone finally stopped and brought her little family to the Franklin County Dog Shelter.
But the shelter was terrifying. Nylah was placed in a kennel between barking dogs, and she panicked. She barked back, trying to protect her babies. She didn’t know how to comfort them, stepping over them in her fear. She was overwhelmed, and the shelter staff knew she needed help. That’s when we stepped in.
We brought Nylah and her puppies to a foster home, hoping to give her the peace she’d never known. For a moment, things were calm. But tragedy struck again. One day, the resident dogs—much larger than Nylah—broke through the gate and attacked her. She fought with everything she had to protect her babies. She was half their size, but she didn’t back down.
Her face was torn. Blood was everywhere. But her puppies were safe.
Nylah was rushed to the emergency vet. She survived. But the scars—both physical and emotional—run deep. She’s cautious now. Nervous. Especially around other dogs. She’s terrified something might happen to her babies again.
But here’s the thing: Nylah still loves people. She still believes in us.
She’s a house girl now. She curls up on the couch, watches TV, and sleeps in bed beside her foster mom. She’s perfectly housetrained, incredibly smart, and small enough to fit right into your lap. She’s not good with cats, and she’s still protective of her puppies—but can you blame her?
Her whole life since rescue has been about being a mama. But soon, her puppies will be weaned and find homes of their own. And Nylah? She’ll finally get to be a puppy again. She’ll finally get to be someone’s baby.
She deserves a home where she’ll never be thrown away again. Where she’ll never be attacked or left behind. Where she’ll be cherished for the next 12–14 years as someone’s best girl.
Nylah is waiting for someone to show her that people can be good. Could that someone be you?

PEPPER
Pittie Mix Puppy
Female
DOB: Approx: August 5, 2025
Pepper is the sweetest little girl. She was born outside with her two sisters, Phoebe & Poppy near the side of the road. Their mama, Nylah stayed with them there and kept them safe until someone finally stopped and took them to the Franklin County Dog Shelter. But it didn't go well at the shelter for this sweet family. Nylah (the puppies' Mama, was still a puppy herself. She was scared, there were dogs on each side of her kennel and she barked and barked and huddled around her puppies to protect them from the other dogs and the environment. She was stepping all over the puppies and didn't really know what to do with them so the shelter asked if we could step in and help this little family.
Once we rescued the three girls and got them into their new foster home, things were going so well. But once day, the resident dogs at the foster home (much larger than Nylah and her babies) broke down the gate that kept Nylah and her puppies safe int their own little room, and attacked Nylah. She defended her puppies (even though she was less than half the size of the other dog. She was injured and her face was badly scared and blood was everywhere, but Nylah had taken the brunt of the attack, and kept her babies safe. She had to go to the emergency vet, ad now she is especially cautious around other dogs, but she is okay and her babies are jut the cutest little house hippos you will ever meet.
Pepper in particular is a little doll. She is all spicy and a little peppery girl. She is full of spunk and loves everyone. She'll be wrestling with her sisters one minute then in your lap curled up and content just being there the next. She is an active little girl and wants to see everything that is going on. She is friendly and playful and will be ready to go to a family of her own where she can be cuddled and carried, and can be taught to sit (she is very smart) and other commands in a puppy training class. She is a doll ad will make a wonderful member of someone's family!
If you are ready to make a lifetime commitment to care for and love this puppy for the next 12-17 years through thick and thin (not just until it’s not convenient) and are ready to welcome this baby into your home, please complete an Adoption Application!

Phoebe was the little leader of the group. She was also the one that wanted attention from people first...bounding out to meet anyone who came into her room. She is also very playful and smart as a little whip! She also loves wrestling with her sisters and her Mama....and will follow you around everywhere you go if you'll let her. She is friendly and playful and will be ready to go to a family of her own where she can be carried around, taken for walks and where she can go to puppy obedience class (we recommend for ALL puppies!) She is going to make someone very happy to have her as their girl for the next 12-14 years!

Poppy was the peacemaker. She was always in the middle of the tumbling puppy parties but never getting too rough and leaving the party when things started to get too crazy. Now she does love to play and she loves everyone as well as her sisters and her Mama....but she is just a happy little girl and is, like her sisters, and Mama very smart! She is a wonderful little puppy (house hippo) that loves to play, follow you around and be involved in everything. The next minute, shell be out like a light (like all puppies) dreaming little puppy dreams. She is loving and will be ready to go to a family of her own where she can be carried around, taken for walks and where she can go to puppy obedience class (we recommend for ALL puppies!) She is going to make someone very happy to have her as their girl for the next 12-14 years!
