why you should consider an adult cat:
It might be their last chance.
Many adult cats end up homeless due to no fault of their own. Separated from the people that they loved, surrounded by strangers, confused, and sometimes frightened, many are emotionally devastated by their misfortune. Sadly for adult cats, most people who adopt, gravitate toward the adorable, bouncy, big-eyed kittens. Older cats sit by and watch, as one loving family after another passes them over for a cute kitten from this season's litter. Kittens will always be popular, and most have no trouble attracting admirers. But for the abandoned, forgotten, and heartbroken adult cats, you just might be their last chance to have the love and warmth of a home with people who will love them again.

Please consider adopting an older cat. When cared for properly, cats can live well into their late teens to early twenties. Typically, they will remain active and playful throughout most of their lives. Some may need a little extra patience while adjusting to a new home, but once they feel safe and secure again, they will give you years of faithful companionship and unconditional love.

    TOBY

    TOBY

    TOBY

    TOBY ~ Male
    Pure Black; Short Hair
    Approximate Birth Date: June 2002

Hi. My name is Toby. I thought my life was pretty good for a long time… and then something happened…now I am not so sure about anything anymore. Life didn't turn out the way it was supposed to for me…

When I was just two days old, my Mother was killed by a car. It was a hot afternoon and I was left laying in the sun squealing for help. I almost died that day…but fortunately, a kind PetPromise volunteer found me and she loved me and fed me from a bottle and carried me around. I was so happy…and even though the odds were stacked against me…I survived…because I knew that people loved me.

I was adopted by a couple…and I was loved. I loved those people…they made me feel so happy! But then a baby was born…and I was nervous…and sad. I didn't use my litter a few times. Then my parents returned me to PetPromise...because they didn't have "time" for me anymore. I didn't know what I did wrong.

My heart was breaking. I had lost the people that loved me…the people I loved and I had no idea why. Thank goodness that PetPromise was here to take me back or I could have been taken to a shelter where…well…anything…ANYTHING could have happened to me.

I guess I will never have a home of my very own again where I can give my special kitty kisses and be carried around like a baby. Since being in a foster home with other cats who pick on me...I have had some litterbox issues…but in a home without lots of other kitties...I prmise to be good....maybe? I know that there has to be someone out there that will love me forever no matter what. Isn't there?

But PetPromise had a volunteer willing to rehabilitate this big tough baby...as she saw the big soul and all of the love reflected int his cat's eyes. With time and patience...and a lot of work...the once "wild" Rocky was cuddling, purring, jumping into laps, rubbing on legs....and begging to be held. Rocky is one of our most successful feral rehabilitations. He loves other cats, people, food, and even does well with nice friendly dogs. Rocky is a special boy....and would love to be the center of someone's world where he can live happily and safely with his very own family for the rest of his life!

But after a year of rehabilitation and a lot of volunteer time and effort....little Alec is now a happy, friendly and loving boy!!!! Just think....he would probably have suffered a terrible death long ago had someone not seen the potential in this boy.

Alec likes other cats, loves, loves LOVES to be petted and to be the center of attention (he will even smack you with his paw if he thinks you ignored him when you walked by.) He is a wonderful guy who is just waiting for someone to recognize how wonderful he really is. Could you be that person?

Sweet little Henry. This poor boy was found as a young boy in the woods living in an abandoned log. He was not doing so well...starving...scared...he hardly looked like a cat when we rescued him. It took us a long time and a lot of work to win this sweet boy over. He was so very scared. We cannot even imagine what he had been through that would have traumatized him so! Today he is a sweet little boy that prefers a quieter home with adults (the three year old that he lives with is a bit much for this gentle soul). He LOVES people and attention and does great with other kitties. He is fine with gentle quiet dogs....and is just and angel. BABY

    BABY

    BABY ~ Female
Brown & Gray Tabby; Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: April 8, 2004

I am just a 2 year old kitty, but someone thought that I was disposable and dumped me outdoors to fend for myself. I don't understand what I did wrong. I was very scared. I ran through the neighborhood crying out for my owners. Dogs chased me, the cars were the scariest part…I hadn't been outside before. It was starting to get cold at night. Everyone that I walked up to gave me a pet on the head…but then went into their homes…leaving me outside. I was so hungry. Some big kids found me sleeping in the bushes one evening. They were loud and were laughing at me. One tried to grab me so I ran. I climbed a tree and when they threw rocks at me, I jumped onto the roof of a house and ran to the window where a cat was sleeping on a nice warm bed inside. I cried and cried and scratched on the window…begging the people to save me. A woman opened the window and pulled me inside. It was warm and safe…I purred and rolled over in her lap. I like to do that….I just love everyone….I am so happy to be alive!

And that is how I ended up here…with PetPromise. Now I am looking for a family and a home to call my own! I am EXTREMELY friendly, I am a BIG CUDDLY girl (I look like a big raccoon!)...and do great with dogs, cats....and even small children! Can I be yours? Please?

    SHEBA

    SHEBA ~ Female
    Brown Tabby; Domestic Short Hair
Approximate Birth Date: February 21, 2004

My name is Sheba...and my life began on a golf course. Somehow I found myself as a kitten abandoned at a country club. Someone dumped me there thinking that I would find someone to take me home. Unfortunately, the country club had another idea. They wanted me gone! They called me a nuisance and tried to chase me away. The hit me and hurt me. I was so scared. One of the employees stopped the people from abusing me further. But even she couldn't make me hers. I hid in the bushes there terrified of the people that came and went...finding scraps of food that the nice girl left out for me....but scared for my life.

Fortunately for me, a PetPromise volunteer arrived one day and discovered me. I meowed at her from under the deck and I cried and cried to get her attention. She bundled me up and took me away from there, just in time!

I am so thankful to not be hurt and abused anymore. I'm a very sweet and talkative kitty. I love to give head butts while you are watching tv. Now all I need is my forever home! I promise to love you forever if you will promise to keep me safe forever.

    SLY

    MOXY

    SYLVESTER ("SLY") ~ Male
    Black; Short Hair
    Approximate Birth Date: February, 2006

On a cold February evening a black kitty was walking down the side of a road near campus playing in the grasses and looking for scraps of food to eat. "Sly," as he later came to be known, was hit by a car just minutes later. The driver that hit him didn't stop…or even slow down as Sly lay writhing in the road. A young girl witnessed the whole thing. Sly was in severe shock. He had a shattered jaw and crushed shoulder/leg. Several of his teeth had been knocked out by the blow and blood was everywhere. Despite all of this, when the girl went to him, he looked up and purred at her as she carried him to her car.

Sly was neutered, stitched, his jaw was wired so that he can eat (moist food) on his own, some of his teeth were removed...and his crushed shoulder and leg were set and a make-shift bandage/cast was made to save the leg that most thought would have to be amputated.

Sly is a fighter and such a sweet boy.....we can't believe that he is alive today. He is the happiest and sweetest cat in the world despite what happened to him! His leg was miraculously saved, but he will always carry with him the little telltale limp and the memory of what happened on that cold February day.

If you want to give Sly the home that he deserves after all that he has been through, please complete an On-Line Adoption Application.

    MINI KITTY ~ Male
    Gray Tabby; Short Hair
    Approximate Birth Date: January, 2005

    My story starts out sad......

I used to live with someone. I was comfy and warm and loved back then. I thought that I was a good kitty. They said that they loved me. Then I heard them say we were moving. I was happy...we were going ot a new home. Then, all of a sudden, I found myself outside a day care, dumped by my family. This wasn't supposed to happen. I was so scared and. You see, I'm a big kitty with so much love to give. I am a really good cat. Why would the people that I loved and who loved me throw me away like that?

I lived under the bushes at the day care for months and months. People would pet me as I rubbed up against their legs crying for food and attention. Some days they would feed me and some days I would go hungry. The weather got colder and colder and finally, a kind woman got me to PetPromise.

But I still need a family of my own. I am a VERY VERY big boy! But I am a big teddy bear! I love everyone and will come and cuddle up next to you on the couch. I like other kitties and probably dogs too. Can you love me enough to give me a home where I will be safe forever? I promise to love you in return!

She is a BEAUTIFUL little girl...with the ear-setting and sleek grace of a Siamese...and the sweet gentleness of her Mommy.

Paris also likes to play, play, play. She LOVES the feather toy. If you hold it up high and shake it wildly little Paris will stand on her back legs and go nuts trying to catch it. It is hilarious. Paris also Loves to help with the laundry. She will get on top of the dryer (if you will let her) and watch you take out the clean clothes. Then she will help you fold them and roll up on them when you are done! She is so cute when she does that.

Paris, is the daughter of kitty, Curly-Q (a Siamese Mix). Paris is a soft and angelic kitten that gets along with other kitties and loves everyone in her sweet soft way. Won't you give this little princess a home?

    JAYCEE ~ Female
    Black; DSH/Siamese Mix
Approximate Birth Date: July 12, 2009

Jaycee is one of the darling quadruplet girls. She is the ultimate cuddler (like her sister Kaycee). She absolutely LOVES people and will follow you around from room to room begging to be picked up and held. This little girl, like her sister Kaycee would be happiest if you just held her all day long. They both have HUGE purr motors...and often struggle against one another to see who can cuddle closest to you.

Jaycee is playful and a lover. She crawls up in your lap in the afternoon and evening and just wants to be petted and loved. She purrs and circles and rubs until she has found the perfect spot to sleep. She looks up into your eyes in perfect contentment. She likes the cat tree and sleeps on the top looking out the window. She looks like "bat cat" because her ears point straight up and look like the batman costume ears. It's so adorable. Her fur is so soft and fluffy. Her tail flips back and forth letting you know that she hasn't been petted enough. And if you stop petting her anyway, she starts talking back to you and getting fussy until you start again.

Jaycee is the daughter of kitty, Curly-Q (a Siamese Mix). She is a lovebug...and will be a GREAT kitty for any home...she loves children and other cats too!

Approximate Birth Date: July 12, 2009

Kaycee is one of the darling quadruplet girls. She is one of the tow "cuddle-sisters" (like her sister Jaycee). She absolutely LOVES people and will follow you around from room to room begging to be picked up and held. This little girl, like her sister Jaycee would be happiest if you just held her all day long. Both Kaycee & Jaycee have HUGE purr motors...and often struggle against one another to see who can cuddle closest to you.

Kaycee is the talker of the bunch. She will run up to you in the morning and tell you all about her night. She's very expressive. Her fur is soft and she twists and turns while you pet her and listen to her tell you about her activities. She likes to sleep on the back of the sofa, on the corner, just behind you, where the lamp shines on her.

Kaycee is the daughter of kitty, Curly-Q (a Siamese Mix). Kaycee is a lovebug and a kisser...and will be a GREAT kitten for any home...she loves children and other cats too!

    SMOKEY ~ Male
    Gray & White; Short Hair
    Approximate Birth Date: April, 2008

Smokey was found going from house to house looking for someone to let him inside. He clearly had been dropped off in the neighborhood by his "owners." He is just a young boy...and what a doll he is. Everyone who meets him just loves him. He is absolutely adorable to look at and has an even sweeter disposition. He obviously was part of a loving human family at one point since he has yet to meet a human he does not immediately take to and follow around. The cable guy was out recently and Smokey wouldn’t leave him alone. He is very friendly and has no tendency to run and hide as some cats do. His antics are a joy and pleasure to watch, especially when he hangs upside down by his paws from the top rung of a ladder. What a doll baby he is .... would you make him yours?
